Because carpet is made of a verity of fibers, which have different characteristics. Any cleaning methods listed here should always be tested in an area of carpet that is hidden to ensure that the cleaner used doesn't damage the carpeting. Always follow any instructions and WARNINGS on the label of the cleaner for safety proposes.  

 

 

  • Maintenance                 

    • Use a high quality vacuum 3-4 times weekly

    • Have carpet professionally cleaned every 12 - 18 months (Some manufactures require this) 

      • Dry cleaning - Excellent for areas which have high humidity which makes it difficult to remove wet cleaning.

      • Steam cleaning - extremely important to not over wet the carpet. Can damage carpeting (should completely dry in 12-24 hours.

  • Spot Cleaning.

    • Spot cleaning as spills occur. (See chart below.)

No carpet is 100% stain proof so not all stains will come out.

When spot cleaning always blot with clean white cloth (A colored cloth can transfer the color of the cloth to the carpeting) Scrubbing will alter the fiber and damage the texture of the carpet.

Any dry loose debris should be vacuumed dry.  Adding moisture can create more difficult problem.

Cleaning methods used in chart below.

  1. Dry Cleaning Fluid - Available in stores use Non-Flammable   type.

  2. Nail Polish Remover - Amyl Acetate, DO NOT USE if contains ACETONE.

  3. Detergent Solution - 1/8 Teaspoon mild liquid detergent (non-bleach without lanolin) mixed with 2 cups cool water 

  4. Warm Water - Lukewarm tap water.

  5. Vinegar Solution - 1 to1 water & White Vinegar.

  6. Ammonia Solution - 1 cup water to 1 tablespoon household ammonia.

  7. Spot Removal Kit - Found at most home centers & professional cleaners

  8. Call a Professional - Call a local professional carpet cleaning company.

Find spot in chart and use first method, and then second, third, ect. until spot is removed.
